graduate students wanted
Coral genomics and/or fluorescence
We invite graduate student(s) to look into functions of coral fluorescence, or process of adaptation and natural selection in corals. Both project will be heavily based on genetics and genomics approaches. An ideal candidate would have a record of prior experience with molecular biology, bioinformatics, and field work. This job assumes extensive experimentation with corals and their larvae in the field (Flower Garden Banks, Florida Keys, Great Barrier Reef, and Palau). Contact Misha Matz: matz[at]mail.utexas.edu.
opportunities for volunteers
We welcome interested undergrads, and, in fact, anybody who is interested in corals, evolution, or glowing creatures, to help us in the lab. Start off with preparing bacterial media and coral tank maintenance and progress to genotyping of micronesian coral samples and quantitative PCR. Fieldwork volunteering opportunities may be available as well.

postdoctoral positions
None available at this time, unless the postdoc’s salary is self-funded (in which case, please do contact Misha Matz, matz[at]mail.utexas.edu!)
Systems biology of non-model organisms
We are looking for a bioinformatician to work on systems biology of reef-building corals, with a more general idea to develop universally applicable pipelines to improve functional annotation of genomes in non-model organisms  This projects will capitalize on a series of novel next-generation sequencing applications recently developed in my laboratory.
